How Much Do French Lessons Cost in Paris? (2026 Price Guide)

Short answer: anywhere from €50 a year to more than €150 a lesson. It depends what you're buying, and "per week" prices can be very misleading.

Almost every new student asks me how I compare with the big schools. So in September 2026 I sat down with a coffee and the published price lists, and put it all in one place.

The question I'd ask instead

Not "how much per week?" but "how many minutes will I actually speak?"

In a class of eight, you might speak five minutes an hour. In a private lesson, you speak most of the hour, and I can hear your mistakes and fix them on the spot. That's usually what makes people progress.

A quick way to compare: divide the price by the hours.

  • Private lesson at a school: €165 for 90 minutes = €110 an hour

  • Private lesson with me: €80 for 60 minutes = €80 an hour

  • Intensive group: €419 for 15 hours = about €28 an hour, shared with up to 7 people

So, is a private tutor worth it?

I'll be honest, not always.

If your budget is tight and you like a fixed schedule, a group course is a great start. The city courses are a real bargain.

A private tutor makes sense when you need to speak with confidence quickly, your schedule changes all the time, or you're preparing an exam for a visa, a residence card or French nationality.

Many of my students do both: a group course for structure, and a few private lessons to work on their own mistakes.

My prices

  • Private lessons: from €80 an hour, in a café (mostly Montmartre) or online. Same price online, because the preparation is the same.

  • Small groups of 2 to 4: from €40 per class.

  • Walk & Talk tours: from €150 per session.

  • Trial lesson: one hour to assess your level and build your plan.

All the packages are on my pricing page.

À bientôt, Caro
